Position Overview
The Composite Quality Technician will be responsible for supporting the quality assurance and inspection processes within the production environment. This role involves hands-on inspection of composite materials and components, testing, and documentation to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer specifications. The successful candidate will be a proactive team player with a strong technical background in composites and a commitment to maintaining the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection and Testing:
- Perform detailed inspections of composite materials and products throughout various stages of production, including incoming raw materials, in-process, and final products.
- Conduct mechanical and physical testing of composites, such as tensile, compression, and flexural tests, to verify material properties and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Quality Assurance:
- Assist in developing and maintaining quality control procedures and work instructions specific to composite manufacturing.
- Identify non-conformances during inspections and testing and collaborate with the Quality Manager and production teams to resolve issues promptly.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Accurately document inspection results, test data, and any identified defects or issues.
- Prepare detailed quality reports and maintain comprehensive records of all inspections and tests conducted.
- Calibration and Maintenance:
- Ensure that all inspection tools and testing equipment are properly calibrated and maintained in accordance with company procedures.
- Perform routine checks and preventative maintenance on quality control equipment.
- Process Improvement:
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes to address recurring quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Compliance and Audits:
- Ensure compliance with relevant quality standards, such as ISO 9001 or AS9100, and customer-specific requirements.
- Assist in internal and external quality audits, providing documentation and evidence of compliance as required.
Qualifications / Experience
- Experience:
- Previous experience in a quality control or quality assurance role within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the composites industry.
- Hands-on experience with composite materials and familiarity with composite manufacturing processes.
- Skills and Knowledge:
- Proficiency in the use of inspection tools, such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine).
- Knowledge of quality standards and best practices in composite manufacturing.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and document defects or non-conformances.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and material specifications.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Certifications:
- Certification in Quality Control or Quality Assurance (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Technician) is advantageous.
- NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) certification in composites is a plus
